Division Overview Hubbell Power Systems (HPS) engages in the design and manufacture of a wide variety of products used by utilities. Posting Address Rocky Mount, NC Position Overview PRIMARY PURPOSE: Brake Operators will set up and operate a power brake to bend, notch, punch, form rolls, arc, or straighten metal plates or sheet metal and structural shapes to blueprint or specifications by performing the following duties: Duties and Responsibilities MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: * Set up and operate machines and tooling per standards: install, align, and lock specified punches, dies, cutting blades or other fixtures securely in rams or beds of machines. * Produce metal work pieces to quality and efficiency standards, measure dimensions of finished work pieces to ensure conformance to specifications using micrometers, calipers, gauges, templates, and rulers. * Selects proper tooling to perform the job; responsible for storing tooling appropriately. * Identify dimensions and directions for formatting according to plans or drawings. * Select, position, and align the machine according to the set-up sheets. * Position the back "stops" in the machine to obtain appropriate dimensions of the fold. * Verify angles and dimensions of the work pieces. * Able to keep pace on long-running jobs. * Checks parts for conformity to job specifications. * Operate tools, equipment and machinery with caution to prevent damage or injury to self or others. * Properly discard scrap materials. * Operate equipment, including but not limited to breaks, shears, and CNC cutting equipment * Maintain organized storage of stock steel on racks. * Transfer raw materials or fabricated parts/products within or between departments. * Maintain and clean machinery as necessary. * Operate overhead crane and devices used for the lifting of applicable steel objects. * Observe the workplace safety standards set forth by the company, including but not limited to, wearing personal protective equipment, completing routine maintenance tasks, and communicating potential hazards to co-workers and management. * Perform work in an organized and productive manner to ensure target completion dates can be achieved. * Pay close attention to detail working to achieve error-free performance. * Follow policies, procedures, work methods, directives and work rules established by company management. * Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of the job. ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: * Physical exertion requiring full and unrestricted use of all limbs and body movements. * Ability to lift items weighing up to 35 pounds unassisted. * Sporadic outdoor work will expose the employee to adverse weather conditions and geographical temperature extremes. * Environment will expose the employee to dirt, dust, grease, chemicals, sparks and loud noises. * Working with or in close proximity to powered equipment, tools and machinery will require normal vision and hearing, or any deficiencies correctable to within normal ranges. Skills and Experience * One (1) year of industry specific experience including knowledge of the practices and machinery used for the fabrication of steel parts and operation of CNC cutting machinery. * Possession of applicable personal hand, air and power tools. * Willingness to work overtime as required. * Forklift operation experience preferred.
