Job Description:
Position Summary The Department of Pathology and Laboratory
Medicine, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of
Medicine, is seeking a PhD, MD, or MD/PhD academic Clinical
Cytogeneticist for a tenure-track/tenured, fixed-term, or variable
track position at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full
Professor. The UNC Hospitals Clinical Cytogenetics Laboratory is a
full-service laboratory which performs both constitutional
(prenatal and postnatal) and cancer cytogenetic testing on
approximately 4,500 cases annually. Responsibilities of this
position will include oversight and direction of the day-to-day
operations of the clinical cytogenetics diagnostic service,
laboratory case sign-out (conventional cytogenetics, FISH , and SNP
microarray), technical and analytical troubleshooting, and new
assay development. All Laboratory faculty are expected to teach a
variety of learners, including medical students, pathology and
medical genetics residents, and fellows from various programs
including Laboratory Genetics and Genomics, Molecular Genetic
Pathology, and Maternal Fetal Medicine. Opportunities also exist to
engage in a variety of ongoing research projects including several
that involve next generation sequencing. Preferred Qualifications,
Competencies, And Experience For those with certification or
fellowship training in both Clinical Cytogenetics and Molecular
Genetics or Laboratory Genetics and Genomics, a combined role in
both the Cytogenetic and Molecular Diagnostic Laboratories is
available.
